10月4日(月)，心地よい秋の午後，イギリスの「収穫祭*」

を学ぶ英語活動が開催されました。収穫祭とはイギリスで

1200年も前，異教徒の時代から形を変えて行われてきた農業

や収穫物に感謝する行事です。イギリスでは，人々が収穫した

野菜や果物を持ち寄り，教会は干し草で飾られ，賛美歌で祈り

を捧げ農業や収穫物に感謝し祝宴が行われます。

 

今回はALTのJake先生が「串高生にもイギリスでの収穫祭の雰囲気を味わってほしい！」と干し草の

ベンチを特別に5つ手配し，木々には光のランタンを吊るし，テーブルを秋の収穫物（麦，野菜や果物）

で飾り付けを行い，秋を思う存分感じられる活動となりました。

　　

サプライズでK教頭先生が『枯葉』で始まる秋のクラッシックナンバーを演奏し，収穫祭に彩りを添えて

くださいました。

*収穫祭は，9月または10月の最初の満月に祝われます。この月は「収穫の月」と呼ばれます。かつて

農民たちは「収穫の月」を見ることで作物の収穫時期を知りました。

 

“On the 4^th of October students and teachers gathered in the gardens to participate in the English tradition of the ‘Harvest Festival’. It was a fun and relaxing event where people could craft traditional decorations that people in the UK have been making for over a thousand years. There was a large display of harvest fruits and vegetables, as well as seats made from hay. Students enjoyed sitting in the fresh air with their friends and creating something new while experiencing a foreign culture. The vice principal was also kind enough to play some lovely live music for all to enjoy. The Wheat Dolly decorations the students and teachers made were so beautiful, I hope they will find a place at everyone’s homes and bring the Harvest Spirit to Kagoshima!”
