1 Kagoshima Technical High School History

Widely known as Rokko, Kagoshima Prefectural Technical High School's origins date back over a hundred years. In 1908, it was founded as a technical apprentice school. Since the end of World War II, Japan has implemented a high economic growth policy aimed at industrialization and modenization; in conjunction, Rokko has made every possible effort to expand its facilities and equipment in order to establish more courses and improve technical education. Over 34,000 students have graduated from Rokko, contributing to the progress of many industrial fields in Japan.

 

2 Educational Objectives

Rokko offers students a general and technical education according to their abilities and aptitudes, based on the objectives of the Fundamental Law of Education.

Through Rokko’s motto of “Diligence, Creativity, and Sincerity,” these objectives are achieved by developing a sound bodies and strong sense of humanity order to increase students’ motivation to work hard and cultivate the knowledge and skills necessary to work in an age of highly internationalized technology.

4 Features

 (1) Curriculum

Freshmen choose Technical Group I or II according to their aptitude. Group I is made up of 4 courses in the field of Information & Production. Group II consists of 3 courses in the field of Construction & Environment. Both groups offer their own technical studies and common general subjects.

Before becoming juniors, students decide their course according to their interests and objectives. Rokko offers a broad elective system so that students can take subjects from other courses within the same group in accordance with their objective to seek employment or to go to technical school or university.

 (2) Club Activities

    baseball, rugby, handball, basketball, tennis, soft tennis, kendo, volleyball, table tennis, judo, swimming, archery, soccer, Japanese archery, boxing, karate, golf, softball, soft baseball, badminton, track & field

  • Cultural Clubs :

    concert band, architectural arts, broadcasting, computer, data processing, environmental chemistry, mechanics, construction, tea ceremony, photography, Go, Japanese chess, mechatronics

 (3) Graduates’ Careers :

Approximately 65.7% of students obtain employment immediately after graduation

(33.6% in Kagoshima Prefecture ; 66.4% outside of the prefecture)

Approximately 34.3% of students obtain employment immediately after graduation

(44.2% university ; 6.7% junior college ; 49.1% vocational school)
